Summary
This 1978 GMC motorhome is a structurally solid project coach with a strong mechanical foundation and approximately 15,000 miles on a restored engine and transmission that reportedly starts and runs well. It will require transport as the rear air suspension is currently non-functional and the system needs repair. The exterior body panels are straight but the paint and roof finish are heavily weathered and will need full refinishing and resealing, though it retains original features like roof rails, an upper storage pod, and a rare rear spare tire carrier with intact lowering mechanism. Inside, the cab and galley area remain in good preserved condition, while the rear bedroom has water damage from a past roof leak and will need restoration and reassembly. Located as a restoration-ready GMC platform, aimed at enthusiasts looking for a solid base to complete.

Seller Write-up
1978 GMC Classic Motorhome Project
Offering a structurally complete 1978 GMC classic motorhome project. This coach features a massive mechanical head-start with a fresh, restored powertrain, but it requires cosmetic, body, and suspension work to be road-ready. It is an ideal canvas for an enthusiast looking for a solid foundation to customize.
The Mechanicals:
Powertrain shows approximately 15,000 miles on a restored engine and transmission. It starts and runs strong.
Suspension: The factory rear air bags are non-functional. The rear suspension is currently aired down, and the system will need to be mechanically sorted. The vehicle will need to be trailered or towed from its current location.
Exterior & Roof Condition:
The fiberglass and aluminum body panels are structurally straight. The paint and clear coat are heavily weathered from sitting outside, particularly across the roof surface, and will require a complete repaint and fresh roof seam sealing.
It comes equipped with its original full-length aluminum roof rails, upper storage pod/cargo box, and the rare rear-mounted spare tire carrier with the original flexible handle lowering mechanism completely intact.
Interior Condition:
The front cockpit, dash, captain’s chairs, and kitchen/dinette area are in remarkably clean, intact, and well-preserved condition for a project vehicle.
The rear bedroom sustained roof leak damage. Some cabinetry and paneling in this section are disassembled, and the rear sleeping area will require creative interior restoration.
Open to reasonable offers from fellow GMC community enthusiasts who want to take on this classic.
