Starting its life as a 1976 GMC Motorhome, and often mistaken for an Airstream(TM) concept vehicle, this rig was totally rebuilt in 2016, cut-down and customized to 21 feet for easy parking in LA: Fits in one metered spot, can legally park in townships and state parks with 22 ft size restrictions. Features front wheel drive, Air Ride suspension with leveling, 520 watt solar-powered studio set-up with 3 switchable battery banks. Modular interior, sleeps 3, furnace, stove, 3-way refrigerator (works off solar), hot water, shower, toilet, new headliner w/recessed LED lights, 6’5” headroom, stainless steel grab bars, alarm system with pager.
455 Oldsmobile Toronado gas-powered engine runs smooth, and great for towing. Engine was rebuilt in 2002 (when we bought it), also upgraded to headers and 3” exhaust. Passed smog last week, and registration paid til July 2020, New carb, new muffler, brakes, suspension. Transmission was rebuilt in 2004. This mini-motorhome drives fantastic, with power to pass cars while going up modest hills; plus the air-ride suspension with tandem wheels is why i bought this motorhome in the first place. Handles like a big car, affording a smoother ride for onboard studio equipment. Plus, once you arrive, you can level-out the rig with the press of a button (so you’re not living on a curbside tilt like Sprinters and Roadtreks)… and no messing around with leveling jacks!
Cockpit seats freshly reupholstered and swivel around into the room, awesome moonroof, Open floor plan, with much of the furniture designed to be removable, so there’s LOTs of space to transport extra cargo (like a moving van). New bed, couch and kitchen frames are welded steel, for uncompromising strength and future customizing in mind.
Limo tinted windows give you fantastic beach views, with aluminum mini-blinds for night-time privacy. Front and back Fantastic fans, with an empty hatch in the middle, wired up ready for roof AC. 2000 watt inverter, new breaker box with several conveniently located outlets, including switchable (power-saving) 110v for your appliances, plus 12v and USB outlets to power your devices. Audio and power cables chased behind the walls and to the roof, including a cockpit speaker selector to control your solar-powered sound system! (2) of the (4) 130 watt rooftop solar panels tilt up to allow storage underneath, also designed to be removable, so if you’re camped in the shade, you can use extension cable to position the panels 100 feet away and still get free electricity
Bed with memory foam split mattress accepts full-size fitted sheets, easily converts to a 4-person couch, or a cool couch/bench combo for convenient seating, with fridge/stove access while you prepare your meals with the new 2-burner propane stove-top.
(2) 5 gallon propane tanks are stored easy-access and removable, interchangeable, so no need to drive the RV to a propane refill station.
(2) swappable 4 gallon fresh water bottles sit secure in a special mount welded above the catch sink, new 25 gallon fresh water tank below the bed, 40 gallon black tank with new macerator pump for easy waste dump through ordinary garden hose.
All in all, this mini-motorhome takes the best of RV amenities and puts it into a #vanlife package.

This is one of only (4) GMC motorhomes in existence in this 21 foot size, and such customizing was not cheap! Yes, you can get a nice 26 foot or 23 foot GMC Motorhome for less $$; But hey, next time you arrive at the beach at noon with your full-size RV, and end up having to go home ‘cause you can’t find a parking space… well, think of this little GreenMachine
